Carat
Carat is simply put and measure of weight similar to Kg and Lbs. 1 carat (ct) is equivalent to 0.200 grams. As the carat goes higher the larger the diamond. How does this relate to diamond buying? Diamonds are sold on the open market by carat weight. Diamonds are priced in increasingly higher price ranges/ct as the carat weight of the diamond goes up. Combine this with the other 3 factors of Cut, Clarity and Colour, and this will give a price range that will determine the size of diamond you can ultimately afford.
The chart below illustrates how carat varies. Please note that this is NOT to scale and should not be used as an exact measure of size.
